A plastic or silicone scraper can help lift softened residue. Keep the scraper flat against the surface and push slowly. Metal bench scrapers and knife blades are useful tools in other parts of the kitchen, but they are not the first choice for removing residue from a finished stainless work surface.

What Not to Use on Stainless Steel

Skip cleaners containing chlorine bleach unless the product manufacturer specifically approves their use and provides clear instructions.
